I don't remember the loading ramp, but I sure remember Sunday mornings and going to see which race car left behind would start , I finally got caught and the guy put the fear of God into me. The Slaughters owned the White Bear I believe, an old racer comes by here now and then , he and our cross the street neighbor stole one of the bears as a joke he claims , msut been damn strong, then returned it. Come to thinkk of it the pits didn't go as far left as they do now cause some of the cars were parked there at the tracks. I remember the cops would chase people off them during the races. They couldn't do anything about Cliffs Truck Stop though and the guys would sit up on the trailers and get a free show. I was on a site and this guy from Maine or something told me he had sat there every chance he got , he was a trucker.
What really sticks in my head is the old tree that finally fell down , at the corner of Binder's Field . The Racers would gather there in the shade and squat draggin on a cigarette and talk racin , and I'd be there on my bicycle out on the edge listening, wishing I was one of them heros. I never said a thing I just looked and listened. No telling how many laps I raced in the car port in dad's car , I'd sit for hours and run daytona , no telling how many I won sliding across the finish line in flames on my top LOL. DAmn I gotta go to work, we ought to get togeather sometime, unless we hate each other, I'm at a disadvantage here.
How old are you Tater , I had a couple of friends back when and they have melted in my mind. I remember one guy who I thought was too cool , he lived with his dad and kinda did what he pleased. He polished his dad's shoes for him , it was a chore I guess. He lived in the White Bear, maybe we fought , seems like I did a lot of that back then, or a good old rock fight , damn kids never have rock fights anymore, they carry Glocks.
Al Bostock and Al? Fisher owned the Greyhound. Remember the fancy door back at the magazine rack? And there was fabic on the ceiling, a dark red. And there used to be a Resturant , was it Yandell's , right on the end of Applegate across from the Star. Sneaky swims in the Bel-Aire, untill I got to know the kid that lived there , John Shaffer.
